KeyCue alternative

A KeyCue alternative that's free for what KeyCue does.

KeyCue has been around a long time and is actively maintained. It's also $39.99. If what you want is "show me this app's shortcuts and let me run them," Keysi does that for free, with no time limit, account or card. The $14.99 is for coaching on top.

Both are worth a week of your time. Keysi's cheat sheet is free, and every install starts with 14 days of Pro.

Price, first, because it's the biggest difference

KeyCue is $39.99 one-time for two devices and no future major versions, or $19.99/yr for three. The Keysi feature that competes with it (hold a modifier, see every shortcut of the app you're in, click one to run it) is free, with no account, card or expiry. Keysi Pro is $14.99, once, for three Macs, with free updates and no subscription. So it's free against $39.99 for the same job, or well under half of KeyCue's up-front price for more.

If you use it for work, KeyCue's pricing page puts you on a different plan. Both consumer tiers say “Private use only”: the $39.99 one-time (“One-time payment for the current major version. Private use only.”) and the $19.99/yr (“Subscription ideal for individuals. Private use only.”). Professional use is the Business plan, at $39.99 per user per year. That's from ergonis.com/keycue/pricing on 15 September 2026; prices move, so check.

Keysi has no such split. It's $14.99 once, at home or at work. Against the plan a professional actually needs, it pays for itself inside five months. It's a newer, smaller app from one developer (me), and it's cheap because it does one thing, not because it's a cut-down trial.

Three things Keysi does that KeyCue's site doesn't claim

"Doesn't claim" means KeyCue's own website doesn't mention these as of 2026-09-09, with the export row re-checked against ergonis.com/en/keycue and its features page on 2026-09-13, and all three re-checked there on 2026-10-06. That isn't proof they're absent, so if you rely on one, check KeyCue's current site. Clicking a row to run it isn't on this list: Ergonis's help centre says KeyCue's items are clickable too, and Keysi's are free.

Where KeyCue is the better choice

One limitation, up front

You can't type to search while holding ⌘. Keysi can see keystrokes but not swallow them, so typing would reach the app underneath, and I won't install an input tap to change that. Press the global hotkey (⇧⌘K by default) and the same content opens in a panel you can search.

Try it against KeyCue directly

Run both for a week on the app you use most. KeyCue has a trial. Keysi doesn't need one, because the part you'd compare never expires. Installs also get 14 days of Keysi Pro, then drop to the free tier and keep working. Pro refunds are 30 days, no questions asked.
